A Note About the Natural Environment

The cottage is located in a peaceful rural Lowcountry setting surrounded by natural landscape, woods, and wetlands. Because of this, guests may encounter wildlife and insects that are common in coastal South Carolina.

Fire ants are common in the area and can create small mounds in grassy or sandy areas. Please watch where you step outdoors and avoid any visible ant piles or disturbed soil.

You may also occasionally see local wildlife such as deer, birds, and snakes, especially in warmer months. Snakes are a natural part of the environment and typically avoid people. We simply recommend being aware of your surroundings when walking through grassy areas, near wood piles, or along the edges of the property.

To help keep insects outside:

  • Keep doors closed when not in use
  • Avoid leaving food outside overnight
  • Dispose of trash in the designated bins

These are normal conditions for a natural, rural setting and part of the experience of staying in a quiet Lowcountry retreat.
